Building Blox: Week 27 – Guide to utility connections for new properties (part 2/2)

What we did:

  • Reinstated utility service trenches (part 2);
  • Pipework and ducting run into properties.

Here’s the second part of my guide on how to connect new homes to the utility services. Check out part 1 in week 25 here.

Focussing on the other end of the connection, this week I explain how cables and pipework go into the property.

As you’ll see in the video, the pipes and cables were run over 50m down the trench from the main road into the properties. When crossing through the external wall into the property, cables and pipework need to be run through ducting such as these to ensure they are not damaged. All this pipework and ducting in a small area and so close to the foundations was quite tricky to install (as you can see in the pics below!), but with some careful planning, was done competently to regulations.
